Veteran Directed Care (VDC)

Veteran Directed Care (VDC) is a program from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs that gives eligible veterans more control over their long-term care. Here's what it does:

• Supports independent living by helping veterans stay in their homes or communities instead of moving to nursing facilities.
• Provides a flexible monthly budget that veterans (or their representatives) can use to hire caregivers, including family members or friends.
• Allows veterans to manage their own care plans, including choosing services, scheduling support, and purchasing necessary items.
• Offers help from counselors who guide veterans through budgeting, hiring, and care decisions.
• Covers a wide range of services, such as personal care, respite care, home modifications, transportation, and assistive devices.
